NetWitness® - Firmware and BIOS Update Listing
The following is a list of all Firmware and BIOS updates that have been tested to function with NetWitness® hardware. Please review the list below for firmware/BIOS versions and what series of NetWitness® server it applies to.
Page updated 2 April 2026
NetWitness® has verified that the listed firmware/BIOS versions will not adversely affect the operation of the associated hardware, as long as the steps for deployment are properly followed. The different hardware manufactures may have newer versions of the listed items available. However, only the ones on this page have been tested and verified for NetWitness® approved hardware. Some updates may require a full reboot of the hardware before it takes effect. Please read all the documentation well in advance before deploying. This will allow for proper time allocation should any issues arise.
It is important to note that these downloads are provided and maintained by the hardware manufacturers, such as Dell®, Western Digital®, etc. This means that the hardware manufacturer is solely responsible for making the downloads available. NetWitness® is providing these links as a customer convience to access the manufacturer's downloads and denoting they have been tested with the NetWitness® hardware in question. Please make sure that all NetWitness® servers are updated regularly as these downloads can be removed from the manufacturer's site at any time without prior notice.
When performing updates, it is recommended that the iDRAC firmware be updated first, if available. This will make sure that no compatibility will be lost while updating any other items. When selecting Update Packages associated with Dell® hardware, make sure to select the Microsoft® Windows® 64-Bit installer if utilizing the iDRAC interface for the update. When utilizing the command line interface, via SSH or console, download the BIN binary files. See the instructions later in this article for determining which download type (EXE or BIN) should be selected.
Updating Dell® Servers using the iDRAC (preferred method)
When updating the Firmware on Dell® servers, the easiest method is by using the iDRAC. The following video from Dell® shows how to utilize the iDRAC for applying new firmware and BIOS updates. How to Update Firmware Using iDRAC 9
Updating Dell® Servers via the Operating System Console (iDRAC not available)
- Download all firmware and BIOS updates from the Dell® website via the links provided above. Remembering to download the BIN file not the Microsoft® Windows® file.
- Upload the file into the NetWitness® server requiring the update. This may require learning how to secure copy files to a linux host. These instructions are outside the scope of this document. If there are questions, please open a case with NetWitness® Support.
- Read over any release notes that were provided with the download to make sure there are no special instructions or warnings.
- Execute the BIN file at the command prompt per the instructions.
ex. ./SAS-RAID_Firmware_TPTX7_LN_51.14.0-3900_A15.bin --version - If any other packages are required, download them as requested and install. If no errors or warnings about missing items are seen, move on to the next step.
- Run the same command as before, but this time without the --version to initiate the installation.
ex. ./SAS-RAID_Firmware_TPTX7_LN_51.14.0-3900_A15.bin - Follow all steps as dictated by the installer. Please pay particular attention to if a reboot is required to finish the installation.
- If there are any issues, stop and contact NetWitness® Support for assistance.
Rolling Back to a Previous Firmware Version via iDRAC
If for some reason it is required to rollback to a previous version of firmware, this can be accomplished using the iDRAC on your NetWitness® Dell® Server. Please review the following article on Dell®'s website for instructions on how to rollback to a selected firmware.
Steps to Roll Back iDRAC9 Firmware using the iDRAC9 user interface and RACADM
End of Primary Support (EOPS) Policy
NetWitness® has created a Product Version Life Cycle page that contains information related to the end of support and end of life for the different versions of the NetWitness® software as well as the different series of hardware. It is important to review this regularly to know when different parts of NetWitness® are no longer being supported, as well as, the possible paths forward.
