How does RSA NetWitness utilise Java with Oracle JDK reaching EOL
Issue
Oracle is announcing the end of life for Java. How does this affect RSA NetWitness suite?
Resolution
NetWitness doesn’t use Oracle JDK. We use OpenJDK, not Oracle’s JDK. We’ll continue to get our security updates through Red Hat/CentOS/Alma. Red Hat has committed to support OpenJDK 11 till October 2024.
for latest version 12.4, OpenJDK 17 is used and Red Hat has committed to support OpenJDK till October 2027.
Internal Comments
Information obtained from Product Management on 26th Oct :--------------------------------
This doesn’t affect us. We use OpenJDK, not Oracle’s JDK. We’ll continue to get our security updates through Red Hat/CentOS. Red Hat has committed to support OpenJDK 8 till June 2023. Red Hat will more than likely take over stewardship of OpenJDK 8 (just as they did for 6 and 7).
Here’s a good summary from Red Hat: https://developers.redhat.com/blog/2018/09/24/the-future-of-java-and-openjdk-updates-without-oracle-support/
Hope this clears up any concerns.
