This article summarizes the different zone configurations of the Western Digital Ultrastar 60 storage for NetWitness. All the zone files referenced are in a ZIP file and attached to this document.

Zoning

Each Ultrastar Data 60 can support up to 5 NetWitness appliances connected simultaneously by using the Ultrastar’s zoning feature.

The Ultrastar 60 contains 5 columns of hard drives each containing 12 hard drives for a total of 60 drives per enclosure, these columns can be zoned into their own enclave depending on your specific use case.

Using this feature you can connect multiple appliances to the same enclosure and ensure that only the configured Zones are visible to specific appliances.

Predefined Zones

NetWitness only supports the following 6 predefined zones. These predefined zones definition files are:

Zone Config 0

This is the default zone configuration that all Ultrastar 60 are configured with from the factory. It allows all drives to be viewed from all interfaces on the Ultrastar

Zone Config 0 - 1x

Zone Configuration file: Default zoning. No configuration file required.

Zone Config 1

This config uses a 1x1x1x1x1 configuration and supports 5 NetWitness devices simultaneously. Each device can only access 12 drives.

This config uses a 2x1x1x1 configuration and supports 4 NetWitness devices simultaneously

This config uses a 3x1x1 configuration and supports 3 NetWitness devices simultaneously.
