Summary

 

Recently there have been reports of Spring4shell vulnerability found within the Spring Framework, an open-source framework for building enterprise Java applications owned by VMWare.

NetWitness teams analyzed this vulnerability and found that NetWitness solutions are not affected.

NetWitness will monitor how the threat landscape related to this vulnerability unfolds and update this advisory accordingly.

About Spring4shell vulnerability

A Spring MVC or Spring WebFlux application running on JDK 9+ may be vulnerable to remote code execution (RCE) via data binding. The specific exploit requires the application to run on Tomcat as a WAR deployment. If the application is deployed as a Spring Boot executable jar, i.e., the default, it is not vulnerable to the exploit.
