Summary of the NetWitness® Orchestrator 7.9 Upgrade Guide for Operating System Deployments

This document outlines the upgrade process for NetWitness® Orchestrator version 7.9 in environments using operating system–based deployments. It is intended for system administrators managing upgrades of non-containerized platforms. Ensure all backups taken prior to the upgrade have been tested before proceeding with the upgrade should reversion be required.

Prerequisites

Before upgrading, ensure the following components are installed and configured:

  • Python 3.11
  • Java 17
  • Redis 7.2.4
  • OpenSearch 2.6.0
  • MySQL or PostgresSQL (depending on your database setup)

Additional Requirements

  • Confirming that proper system limits and environment variables are set.
  • Verify that configuration files and databases are backed up.
  • Sufficient disk space is available and correct permissions are set.

Upgrade Workflow

  1. Preparation
    • Stop Orchestrator services
    • Backup configuration files and databases
    • Verify system dependencies
  1. Application Upgrade
    • Replace application files in /opt/threatconnect.
    • Update file permissions and ownership.
    • Run upgrade scripts and validate schema updates.
  1. OpenSearch Migration
    • Backup OpenSearch data and configuration.
    • Install OpenSearch 2.6.0.
    • Recreate the indexes and validate search functionality.

Post-Upgrade Validation

Once the installation has completed, utilize the included diagnostic utility to verify the following items:

  • File permissions
  • OpenSearch connectivity
  • Python envrionment setup
  • Service status and logs
