Root Password on NW Network Appliance

Issue

Does changing the Root password have any effect on the NetWitness Application?

Resolution

The Root password for the operating system (i.e. root account) is separate from the NetWitness application and services. If the root account password is changed, it will not have any adverse effect. To change the root password, it will require one to logon the host su as root and run the command below:

passwd

You will be prompted to enter the password twice.

If the previous root password is forgotten, please refer to the KB article
