Summary: RSA NetWitness Live services is scheduled to undergo required maintenance on Sunday, May 10th, from 10:00 PM EDT to Monday, May 11th, 03:00 AM EDT.

 

RSA will update the SMCUpdate service, which supports automatic updates to NetWitness Platform. The NetWitness Platform client applications may not be able to connect to smcupdate.emc.com service during this time. There will be no changes to any other NetWitness Live Services in this maintenance.

 

After maintenance, the smcupdate.emc.com will no longer resolve to a static IP address (40.121.106.119) and instead will resolve to a dynamic IP address. 

 

Post Maintenance:

For NetWitness Platform (previously Security Analytics) Version 10.x installations:
After maintenance is complete, you will no longer be able to do automatic updates using smcupdate.emc.com. Instead, you must perform manual updates. For detailed instructions, refer to “Download Version Updates from RSA Link” in the RSA Security Analytics 10.x.x Update Guide.

For RSA NetWitness Platform 11.x installations: After maintenance is complete, ensure that your system can resolve the domain name smcupdate.emc.com instead of the static ip 40.121.106.119.

If you have any firewall rules supporting connectivity to the smcupdate.emc.com service that are mapped to the static IP, remove those entries.

 

Validate that there is no hard-coded entry for smcupdate.emc.com in /etc/hosts. Check the following hosts for a hard-coded entry:

  • NW Server­­­­­­­­­­
  • ESA (Primary & Secondary)
  • Malware
